Academic Research Experience:

National Institute of Health Research--OHSU Dept. of Surgery.

NIH funded research focused on the contribution of rib fractures to acute pain and disability following blunt thoracic trauma. Responsible for interviewing trauma patients, and coordinating with other research assistants at OHSU hospital. Patients had their pain and disability levels assessed at several points during their 120-day enrollment period.

Research Fellow--University of Oregon.

National Science Foundation Research Fellow for the study of Genetic Mechanisms of Evolution. Projects employed molecular biology to determine the evolution of mitochondrial differences in lizards native to Argentina and Chile in South America.

Research Assistant--Martins Lab, University of Oregon.

Research focused toward discerning communicative patterns in behavioral evolution. Several species of South American lizards were examined for species-specific display motifs using modern phylogenetic comparative analysis and statistical testing.

Resulting Publication: Martins, et. al. Large scale patterns of species evolution: an interspecific study of Liolaemus lizard headbob displays. Animal Behavior, 2004 (68): 453-463.
