Benefits

The Cutera CoolGlide® system has many advantages over previous methods of laser hair removal. Most notably, it can be used to treat both light and dark skin with few unwanted side effects. Laser hair removal can reduce the amount of unwanted hair from nearly anywhere on the body, including the face, legs, arms, underarms and back. It can also treat sensitive areas such as the chest, nipples and bikini area. Both fine hair and coarse hair can be removed effectively.

How It Works

Laser hair removal uses concentrated beams of light to heat up hair follicles and damage them, thereby reducing the possibility of regrowth. Because the laser energy is absorbed by the hair pigment, the surrounding skin is unharmed. Most of the treated hair falls out in about 2 weeks. Since hair grows in cycles, a series of treatments is usually recommended.

What to Expect

The laser is very gentle and does not require a local anesthetic or pain medication. As the laser is passed over the treatment area, you may feel a series of short stings, similar to the snap of a rubber band against your skin. Most people tolerate this feeling very well and do not experience significant discomfort. Treatment time will vary depending on the size of the area being treated, but it usually takes about an hour for the legs.

After laser hair removal, you may notice that your skin is slightly red and swollen. This normally lasts for only a few hours and should not interfere with your daily activities. Treated hair may start to shed over the next 7 to 14 days. Our patients typically achieve the greatest benefit from about 6 sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. The effect of the hair removal treatment can last from several months to several years and may be permanent.
