There are numerous options when it comes to breast implants. The size of the implants, of course, is the choice patients typically spend the most time thinking about. But the material filling the implant—saline or silicone gel—the shape, and the implant's profile are also decisions that patients make with help from their surgeon.

At Synergy Plastic Surgery, we offer a wide range of breast implant options, including the cohesive and highly cohesive silicone gel implants that have become quite popular in the past several years. It's important to have an open mind about the choice of implants when you arrive for your consultation, because the same size and style of implant that you think looks great on someone else may not be the best choice for you. Your body type, the condition of your breast skin, and the amount of existing breast tissue you have are all factors our surgeons consider when recommending breast implants to meet a patient's goals.

If you’re looking to restore breast volume , a breast augmentation might be right for you. Our surgeons in Austin-Waco, TX area, are asked many questions about breast augmentation surgery. Here are their answers to some commonly asked questions.
Both of these materials are FDA approved and have their own advantages. The best choice depends on the needs of the patient
Silicone implants are filled with cohesive silicone gel. Highly cohesive silicone implants are sometimes called "gummy bear" implants because their gel filling has a consistency similar to the gummy candy. Many people believe silicone gel implants create a more natural-looking appearance and feel. In case of a shell defect, the cohesive silicone filling remains inside the breast capsule until it is surgically removed. Silicone implants have been approved for use in patients 22 and older.
Implants come in 3 projections, or profiles: high, moderate, and low. Just as different sized implants suit different women, each profile may be a better fit depending on a patient's goals. Our breast augmentation patients are able to "try on" implants of different sizes and profiles during their consultations.
Moderate-profile implants offer a medium amount of projection. Their rounded look can provide a significantly increased amount of breast volume, creating a fuller, natural-looking appearance for women with both narrow and wide frames.
Breast implants can be placed either under or over the chest muscle (pectoralis). Most of our patients choose the submuscular placement (under the muscle) because it can achieve a highly natural look, especially for women who have little breast tissue to start. Submuscular placement can has a short recovery period, and this placement comes with a slightly lower risk of capsular contracture, a rare complication of breast augmentation.
It generally takes about 2 to 3 months for implants to soften and drop into a more natural-looking position. Most patients are thrilled with the results after 6 weeks, but your appearance will continue to improve. Massaging your implants for at least the first 3 to 6 months after surgery can help settle the implants sooner and keep the breast capsule open and soft.
High-profile implants offer the most projection, which means they stick out farthest from the body. Because high-profile implants have a conical shape, they often look more proportionate on women with narrow frames.
Low-profile implants offer the least amount of projection but more fullness around the diameter of the breast. Low-profile implants offer a natural-looking result for patients with wide frames.

“Dr. Blagg and his team are amazing! I had my first ever consultation for a BA with him and immediately knew he was the surgeon for me (booked surgery the same day.) Very informative, comforting and attentive! He listened to my desires and did not urge me to go bigger, was present along with his coordinator Janis to answer all questions leading up to surgery and performed a quick and easy procedure.”

“Dr. Kerr and Synergy plastic surgery did a fantastic job on my breast augmentation from start to finish. I consulted with a few different doctors in the area and Dr. Kerr’s office made me feel by far the most comfortable. I’m glad I went “with my gut.” They helped me choose a perfect size and were constantly available post op to answer all of my questions and see me to relieve my concerns (I’m a bit of a nervous Nelly). My breasts turned out just like I wanted. I couldn’t be happier with the results and the whole process!”
