Operational Changes and Virtual Surgery Consults During COVID-19

Synergy Plastic Surgery

In these uncertain times we wanted to take a minute and let all of our patients and future patients what Synergy Plastic Surgery is doing during the COVID-19 outbreak.  We should start by saying that our “virtual” office is open and our phones and email requests continue to be answered daily.  We are seeing our immediate post-op patients still in the office with limited hours for each doctor for those patients who still need to be seen in person – we are here for you during this crisis!

For those patients who come to see us be aware that we have consolidated to the Round Rock location only at 7700 Cat Hollow Drive, Suite 103.  Our office has taken extra steps to make sure our staff and patients stay safe.  We are only allowing patients to enter our facility, please have your family members wait outside.  We will help you in if you are having trouble getting around still.  We are screening all patients at the door, and checking temperatures.  Please wait at the door until we can come out to you.  For your safety we are also checking staff temperatures before and during each shift.  Our staff will also be in masks for your safety.  We have staggered our appointments so we can move you directly into the exam rooms without time spent waiting.  The exam rooms are toughly cleaned between.  We will call you after your appointment to schedule the next visit as directed by your surgeon.

Frequent handwashing and the use of hand sanitizers while on the go is perhaps our most effective line of defense against COVID-19 right now.  Our staff wash their hands frequently, and supplement with hand sanitizer before entering and exiting all rooms.  We will also be in gloves during all patient exams.  At home we recommend that you wash your hands with warm water and soap several times each day.  This should take 20 seconds which is longer than you would think!  For the best results hum the “happy birthday song” twice while you are washing as it takes about the same amount of time to do this.  Clean counters, surfaces, and door handles frequently.  Take your temperature daily.  Those living in Travis and Williamson counties should adhere to the recently issued shelter in place guidelines which are listed on austintexas.gov

In order to continue our consultation process and welcome new members to our Synergy family we are offering virtual consults during the COVID-19 restrictions.  Honestly our consultation process has never been easier!  When you submit a consultation online at or call our office at 512-244-1444 our friendly patient coordinators will explain the process in detail and set up a time to meet virtually with one of our board certified plastic surgeons.  We will send you a link to fill in secure health information forms, and to send pictures similar to the views you see in our patient photo gallery for the procedure(s) you are interested in.  Our surgeons will then either FaceTime (if you have an iPhone), or contact you via our telemedicine portal (Klara, you’ll receive a text to enter the meeting) or Zoom meeting if you have an android or are using a PC for the consultation.   Our doctors will review your health history with you, discuss your pictures, and talk about any procedures you are interested in.  This is great time to ask questions and learn more about your options.  After the virtual consultation is finished, our doctors will communicate with your patient coordinator who will then reach out with costs and details.  We are offering some limited time “virtual vouchers” which can be used like gift card for those patients who take advantage of this opportunity and are applied to lower procedure costs!  When life gives you lemons, at Synergy we make lemonade!

And finally we want you to know that when you choose Synergy Plastic Surgery for your aesthetic services you are choosing a practice that is giving back and helping others.  We had the unique opportunity to participate in Governor Abbott’s statewide press conference on March 24 here in Austin.  Synergy was able to dig though our shelves to donate over 11,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) items to the Governor’s office including much needed gloves, masks, virucidal wipes, and gowns.  We are working closely with the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Austin Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Society (Dr. Kerr is the president) to help bring more PPE items to those hospitals in need.   We will continue to provide strong leadership both in Austin and throughout Texas to make sure we all work together to keep patients and our colleagues protected during this crisis.

Stay Safe!
