Synergy Plastic Surgery offers a range of breast implant options to help women from Austin, Round Rock, West Lake Hills, Lakeway, and throughout Texas achieve their ideal look. With choices tailored to different body types and aesthetic goals, our board-certified plastic surgeons help you customize your breast augmentation with implants that enhance your shape and reflect your unique vision, whether you want subtle results or a more dramatic transformation.

What Are Your Breast Implant Options?

There are 3 main types of breast implants to choose from:

  • Saline Implants: After insertion, these implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution, allowing for smaller incisions and subtle volume adjustments. They are approved for patients 18 and older.
  • Silicone Gel Implants: Pre-filled with cohesive silicone gel, these implants offer a more natural look and feel that many patients prefer. They are approved for patients 22 and older.
  • Gummy Bear (Form-Stable) Implants: These are a type of silicone implant made from a highly cohesive gel that holds its shape, even when cut. Patients often choose them for their teardrop shape and natural slope.

The best choice of implant  for you depend on your particular needs and personal preferences.

Augmentation With the Keller Funnel™

Our surgeons at Synergy Plastic Surgery are Keller Funnel certified. This FDA-approved device helps our surgeons insert silicone breast implants in the safest way using very small incisions. With the Keller Funnel, the implant is kept completely sterile, minimizing the chance of infection. This unique device allows for precise implant placement through much smaller incisions. It also minimizes your time in the operating room.

Saline vs. Silicone Implants

Most breast augmentation patients choose between saline and silicone implants. Here are a few key differences:

Saline Implants

  • Typically require a smaller incision since they are inserted empty and filled once in place.
  • Usually cost less than silicone implants, making them a more budget-friendly option.
  • Ruptures are easy to detect because the implant visibly deflates if a leak occurs.
  • May require occasional imaging, such as MRI or ultrasound, to confirm the implant is intact.

Silicone Implants

  • Often provide a look and feel that is closer to natural breast tissue.
  • Maintain their shape well over time, even with gradual changes in the body.
  • Typically require a slightly longer incision because they are pre-filled before placement.
  • Regular imaging, such as MRI or ultrasound, is recommended to check for silent ruptures, which are uncommon but possible.

What Are “Gummy Bear” Implants?

“Gummy bear” implants are a type of highly cohesive silicone implant that maintains its shape even if the outer shell is damaged. Known for their form-stable structure, these implants have a consistency similar to gummy candy. They can be a great option for women who:

  • Have minimal natural breast tissue
  • Prefer a more anatomical shape rather than round appearance
  • Want to minimize visible rippling and prioritize long-term implant integrity

Who Is Not a Candidate for “Gummy Bear” Implants?

While gummy bear implants offer several advantages, they may not be the right choice for everyone. Their firm consistency and structured shape can feel less soft compared to traditional silicone implants. During your consultation, our breast specialists can help you determine whether form-stable implants align with your goals and preferences.

You may not be an ideal candidate if you:

  • Prefer a softer, more natural feeling implant
  • Want a rounder, fuller look in the upper portion of your breasts
  • Are concerned about a slightly longer incision, which may be needed for proper placement
  • Prefer a lower-cost option, as gummy bear implants can be a more expensive option

Your Breast Implant Profile Options

An implant’s profile determines how much it projects from the chest when viewed from the side. It plays a key role in your overall shape and silhouette. Low-profile implants offer a more subtle, natural look with a broader base. In comparison, high-profile implants have a narrower base and provide more projection, creating a fuller, more dramatic appearance.

Choosing The Right Breast Implant Size

Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc), not bra cup size. When our breast augmentation specialists recommend implant size, they consider your existing breast volume, body frame, cosmetic goals, and other anatomical factors. Read the following blog posts to learn more about the do’s and don’ts of  implant sizing and how to choose the best implant size for you

How to Choose the Right Implant for Your Body and Goals

No two bodies are exactly alike—that’s why breast implant selection should never be one-size-fits-all. Several factors play a role in determining your best implant option:

  • Body Frame & Chest Width: Broader chests often suit lower-profile implants with wider bases. In contrast, narrower frames may benefit from higher-profile implants that offer more projection without excessive width.
  • Skin Elasticity: Tighter skin may limit the implant size or shape you can safely support.
  • Breast Tissue Volume: The amount of breast tissue you already have affects the coverage and natural contour of the implant.
  • Lifestyle: Active patients may prefer lightweight, moderate-profile implants that allow freedom of movement.
  • Aesthetic Goals: Some patients desire a natural slope, while others prefer a rounder, fuller upper pole.

Your consultation includes a hands-on sizing session using the Mentor® Volume Sizing System and an in-depth discussion with a board-certified plastic surgeon to help visualize your outcome.

Breast Implant Alternatives

Some women who want a subtle size increase without implants may benefit from fat transfer breast augmentation. Also called natural breast augmentation, this procedure adds fullness using the patient’s own body fat.

Fat transfer breast augmentation has the additional benefit of body contouring with liposuction. The best candidates have enough excess fat on their bodies (usually the abdomen, flanks, or thighs) to be redistributed to the breasts.

Can I Combine Implants With Fat Transfer?

Hybrid breast augmentation is an option for women who want the volume and shape of implants with the soft, natural feel of their own fat. By combining breast implants with fat transfer, patients can:

  • Enhance upper pole fullness
  • Smooth implant edges
  • Improve symmetry

Breast Implant FAQ

How long do breast implants last?

Most implants last 10 to 15 years, though some may need replacement sooner due to rupture or aesthetic changes.

Are breast implants safe?

Yes. All Synergy’s breast implants are FDA-approved. Our surgeons use sterile techniques, like the Keller Funnel, to minimize infection and contamination risk.

Can I breastfeed with implants?

Many women can successfully breastfeed after breast augmentation, especially when implants are placed under the muscle. If you are considering having children in the future, your plastic surgeon can tailor your procedure to support your goals.

What happens if an implant ruptures?

Saline ruptures deflate quickly, while silicone ruptures may go unnoticed without imaging. In either case, the implant can be safely removed or replaced with breast augmentation revision.

Do all implants look the same?

Not at all. Factors like implant shape, profile, placement, and your unique anatomy all influence the final result. Learn more about teardrop vs. round implant shapes and selecting the most natural-looking breast implants.
