5 Questions to Ask at Your Tummy Tuck Consultation

The consultation is a huge part of the tummy tuck experience for our Austin, Texas, body contouring patients. It’s the time to ask all the questions you may have about your surgery and make sure you and your surgeon are on the same page when it comes to your goals and concerns. This appointment is your chance to get all the information you’ll need to feel confident, secure, and enthusiastic as you move forward with your procedure.

If you’re not sure where to begin or what you should ask, here are a few suggestions for questions that will help start the conversation.

1. Are you a board-eligible or board-certified plastic surgeon?

Your surgeon should be ready and willing to provide credentialing information. All of the surgeons on our team are certified or eligible to be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Keep a cautious eye out for doctors who are certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, which is not recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

2. Where will my surgery be performed?

Make sure your surgeon’s chosen facility is accredited and equipped for your procedure. We perform many of our procedures at the Stonegate Plastic Surgery Center, which is accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF). When we operate there, we partner with a fully certified staff of professionals dedicated to providing safe care and making your experience smooth and comfortable.

3. Am I a candidate for a mini tummy tuck?

Some patients can achieve their aesthetic goals with a more limited procedure called a mini tummy tuck, which only addresses concerns below the bellybutton. The recovery period is typically a bit shorter and the surgery requires smaller incisions, so it’s worth discussing whether this may be a reasonable option for you. To learn more about the procedure and who is a candidate, please see our previous blog post.

4. How can I expect my results to look over time?

Your surgeon should provide an idea of what you can expect from your results, as well as information around how long you can expect the look to last and what you can do to maintain the effect. This will likely include providing before-and-after photos of former patients. To see examples of the results we create at Synergy Plastic Surgery, please visit our before-and-after photo gallery.

5. How much will my surgery cost?

Once you decide on specifics (such as how extensive your corrections will be and whether you’ll be adding any other procedures), our team will provide you with a personalized quote. This will include details about any fees and additional charges you may need to consider, as well as helpful information about financing options.

Keep in mind that these questions are only the beginning. We’ll be happy to answer any and all questions you have during your consultation to make sure you feel confident and comfortable moving forward with your exciting next step.
