An Interview With Dr. Mehta

What drew you to plastic surgery?

When I was younger, I was often made fun of for the size of my nose. Although I tried not to let it bother me, I would be lying if I said it didn’t bother me at least a little. I didn’t know anything could be done about the appearance of my nose until my mom took me to see a plastic surgeon. I had a rhinoplasty (nose job), after which I felt more confident about my appearance. This experience drew me to plastic surgery because I wanted to help others improve their self-esteem and confidence like I did after my surgery.

What makes your career rewarding?

I am an artistic, meticulous, precise person who loves using his hands, needs to be constantly mentally stimulated, and loves helping people. Plastic surgery fits my personality because it is a very cerebral, artistic, surgical specialty with an infinite variety that can change patients’ lives for the better.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing a patient’s life change after a surgical procedure. I have seen so many patients whose confidence goes from zero to 100 after their procedure. Many times this boost in self-confidence leads to successes in other aspects of their lives, both professionally and personally.

What makes your approach different from other surgeons?

I take a more “hands-on” approach than other surgeons. I remain very involved in the pre-operative, operative, and post-operative care to make sure my patients heal, recover, and have the best cosmetic result possible. I call my patients the same day after their surgery to check on them and give them my personal cell phone number so they can call me if any questions arise.

What goals do you have for your career?

I strive to provide the best patient care and cosmetic results to the patients of Austin and the surrounding areas in the safest manner possible. I am continuously learning new, innovative, and safer ways to perform plastic surgery. I would like to set myself apart from other plastic surgeons by the unique surgeries I perform with a bedside manner that is comforting and assuring to all my patients.

How do you enjoy spending your personal time?

I’m a foodie at heart, love cooking, spending time with loved ones, trying new foods all over town, and maybe even hitting a dance floor or two! I’m also an actor and am best known for my roles in Dude, Where’s the Party and Elephants Don’t Forget. I like to relax by spending time outdoors hiking, biking, and swimming in my favorite watering holes around Austin. I love animals and volunteer for an animal rescue organization whenever I have the chance!
