Shhh … I Had Breast Augmentation: Should It Be a Secret?

To tell or not to tell? That is the question.

Interestingly, when it comes to cosmetic surgery, and specifically breast augmentation, patients at my Austin-based practice tend to go back and forth with this decision. Yet, with an increasing number of celebrities, like Iggy Azalea and Ariel Winter, owning their breast enhancement procedures, I have started to see a shift in patients excited to talk about their procedures, their results, and their new-found confidence.

If you’re considering cosmetic enhancement, know that the decision to keep your procedure quiet or to share openly with friends, family, or even strangers on the street (yes, some patients are that excited with their results), is completely personal and varies from patient to patient. Here’s what I think about each option:

To Tell

Like a good bra, friends and family can really come in handy before and after the procedure. Even those who disagree with a patient’s decision to get surgery typically show their support with transportation, help around the house, and so on during recovery. And if you’re one of those people who feels so excited about your results that you can’t wait to share them, I’m all for people feeling empowered and proud of their cosmetic decisions.

Not to Tell

As mentioned above, there may be certain individuals who do not fully approve of cosmetic enhancement. In this case, keeping your procedure private will minimize their disapproval. Also, it isn’t uncommon for patients to avoid this conversation with children, who may not understand the motivations for the procedure. Whether you decide to keep your procedure completely private, or simply share with a few select “have to knows,” be sure to recognize that the opinions of others shouldn’t matter in the first place. There are a few decisions that are to be made entirely for, and by, you alone — the decision to undergo cosmetic enhancement is one of them.

In the end, this decision can be made by only you. Whether or not you decide to share your procedure, you should be proud of the decision you’ve made to invest in yourself and the beautiful results achieved.

Have you had a breast augmentation? Are you considering the procedure? We want to hear from you: Did you or would you openly share the details of your procedure? Share in a comment below!

Patients who come into our practice (Atlantic Coast Aesthetics) in Florida are really excited to show their results. It is always bikini weather in Florida, so its only right for patients to go out and show their results. However, there is always those who dont want to tell or show anyone what been done to them, but that is natural.

I was fortunate enough to have my breast augmentation done by the wonderful Dr. Kerr. I can honestly say it was the BEST decision I’ve ever made. I travel the world and currently live in Australia and have people approach me all the time (especially women) telling me that I have the most perfect, eye-catching tatas they’ve ever seen. They are perfect and I am not ashamed at all to tell anyone who asks. If you got it, flaunt it-especially when they are done with the most amazing plastic surgeon out there! Thanks for changing my life Dr. Kerr & staff!
