At Synergy Plastic Surgery, we offer several implant options to suit your goals and anatomy. For many of our Austin patients, silicone and highly cohesive gel implants (often called “gummy bear” implants) are the most popular choices, though saline implants are also available. Each type offers distinct benefits and varies in texture, shape retention, incision size, and cost.
Instead of recommending a one-size-fits-all solution, our breast enhancement surgeons take a personalized approach. During your consultation, your surgeon will assess your natural breast tissue, body proportions, and desired outcome to help you understand which implant type will work best for you.
If you’re unsure which option to choose, you are not alone. We are here to provide guidance, answer your questions, and make sure you feel confident about every step of your decision.

How Do I Know What Implant Size Is Right for Me?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to breast implant sizing. Your surgeon will take detailed body measurements, assess your natural breast tissue, and use sizing tools to help you preview your results.

What’s the Difference Between Teardrop and Round Implants?
The choice between teardrop and round implants comes down to your aesthetic preferences:
- Round implants add fullness to the upper part of the breast and create a more noticeable enhancement.
- Teardrop implants mimic the natural slope of the breast and often appeal to patients seeking subtle, anatomical results.
Our expert surgeons will guide you through this important decision based on the type of look you want to achieve. Learn more in our breakdown of teardrop vs. round implants.
Will My Implants Look Natural?
Absolutely—and achieving beautiful, flattering results is one of our top priorities. Your surgeon will help you select the ideal implant size, shape, and placement to match your body proportions and personal goals. Explore more insights in our guide to natural-looking breast implants, where we explain the surgical techniques and design choices that help your implants look and feel like a natural part of your body.
Do Breast Implants Last Forever?
Breast implants are not lifetime devices. While many last 10 to 15 years or longer, you may eventually choose to replace or remove them due to personal preference, aging, or unlikely complications like capsular contracture or implant rupture.
Our surgeons monitor your implant health over time during routine follow-ups and offer implant revision procedures when you’re ready to replace them.
How Long Is the Recovery Time?
Thanks to our Rapid Recovery protocols, most patients return to work and light activity within 1 week of surgery. Full recovery—including a return to strenuous activity—usually takes about 6 weeks. Your recovery timeline will depend on your overall health, implant placement, and whether your surgery includes additional procedures, such as a breast lift or tummy tuck.
Can I Still Breastfeed With Implants?
In most cases, yes. Breast implants don’t typically interfere with your ability to breastfeed. However, this can vary depending on the type of incision and implant placement. Let your surgeon know if you plan to breastfeed in the future, and we’ll take that into account when planning your procedure.
Will Implants Affect Mammograms or Breast Cancer Detection?
You can still have routine mammograms with implants, although special views (called displacement views) may be required. Make sure to inform your radiologist that you have breast implants.
What Are the Risks of Breast Implants?
All surgeries come with some degree of risk. Potential complications from breast augmentation may include:
- Capsular contracture ((tightening of the scar tissue capsule around the implant, which can cause firmness or distortion)
- Implant rupture or leakage
- Changes in nipple sensation
- Asymmetry or dissatisfaction with implant size or shape
Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon significantly reduces your risk and ensures you have a trusted partner to turn to if any issues arise.
Are There Alternatives to Implants?
Patients with sufficient body fat who are looking for a modest size increase may be great candidates for a “natural breast augmentation” with autologous fat transfer. Fat transfer to the breasts provides soft, natural volume without the need for implants, and it comes with the body contouring benefits of liposuction as well!
Can I Combine My Breast Augmentation With Other Procedures?
Yes. Many patients choose to combine breast augmentation with a breast lift to enhance both volume and breast position. It can also be included as part of a more extensive mommy makeover, which may involve procedures like liposuction or a tummy tuck for comprehensive results.
During your consultation, we will help you explore your options and determine whether a combination approach is the right fit for your goals and lifestyle.
