A Mommy Makeover at our Austin practice is a truly transformative procedure. However, achieving your desired results is more than just showing up on your surgery date—a lot of preparation and precise planning is necessary. Sometimes questions come up during this prep time that you may be embarrassed to ask, but that’s what we are here for. Do not hesitate to express any questions or concerns. In this post, we will talk about some of the questions that patients hesitate to ask but are all wondering about.
Before we get into some common questions, we will define what a Mommy Makeover actually is. A Mommy Makeover is a customized combination of breast and body procedures that targets the specific areas of concern of each individual patient. Typical Mommy Makeovers include 1 or more of the following:
- Liposuction
- Tummy tuck
- Breast augmentation
- Breast augmentation revision
- Breast lift
- Labiaplasty
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can leave women with stubborn fat, skin laxity, cellulite, stretch marks, and sagging breasts. A Mommy Makeover is a great way to restore your prepregnancy body. We create a treatment plan during your consultation based on your anatomy, condition, and goals for your appearance.
During the consultation, we’ll answer all of your questions, even if they’re embarrassing to ask. If there’s something you want to know about, we encourage you to ask. For example:
Is it okay to have plastic surgery when menstruating?
There is no reason to reschedule because of your period. In general, there is very little blood loss during your period, so you do not have to worry. However, if you have been taking Advil or another anti-inflammatory medication to help with menstrual pain, you may bruise more.
Is it possible to find a low to no-cost Mommy Makeover?
The cost of your Mommy Makeover depends on several factors—what procedures you choose, your geographic location, the skill of your surgeon, etc. We understand that cost is something you must take into consideration; however, it shouldn’t be your deciding factor. Extremely low prices should be a red flag. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Having said that, high prices do not necessarily mean that you will get great results either. In the end, it is most important to find an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon who you trust. Here at Synergy, we offer special financing through CareCredit® to make the procedure available to as many patients as possible.
How long after a Mommy Makeover can I engage in sexual activity?
There is nothing wrong with resuming sexual activity when you feel ready. However, make sure to listen to your body. If you are sore or something doesn’t feel right, take it slow. Don’t rush into anything that may delay your recovery even more. If a labiaplasty is part of your Mommy Makeover, you must wait about 6 weeks before you can begin having sex again.
Can taking pain meds before the surgery affect the anesthesia?
Let your surgeon know what medications you are taking and how often you take them because you may need a higher dosage during surgery if you take the medications often.
What is the best way to prep for a Mommy Makeover?
I always tell my patients to make sure to maintain a stable weight, quit smoking, gather any supplies you’ll need for recovery, and arrange for help around the house in the days following your procedure.
