Toning Those Arms: Here are all of your options!

Many are probably familiar with the idea of a tummy tuck- it’s an amazing procedure that helps eliminate excess skin and tone the underlying muscles of the abdominal region. It’s also currently one of the top plastic surgery procedures performed because it helps patients achieve their desired flat stomach and toned contours. What many do not realize is that it’s not only your abdomen that can benefit from this type of contouring! Similarly, sagging arms can be corrected through a procedure known as Brachioplasty, or arm lift surgery.

It is common to develop sagging or loose arms as we age or fluctuate in weight. Unfortunately, this skin is extremely difficult to tone through diet and exercise alone. You may find yourself in the same boat as many other patients: you can lose fat and tone muscles, but your arms lack definition.

What is a Brachioplasty/Arm Lift?

At Synergy Plastic Surgery, we perform the arm lift surgery to restore not only slimmer arms, but confidence as well! During this procedure, our surgeons remove sagging skin through an incision along the underside of the arm. If you have excess fatty tissue that accompanies your sagging skin, you may choose to incorporate liposuction with your arm lift surgery.

Liposuction is used to remove unwanted fat from the area, which slims the arms and achieves a thinner and more toned arm contour. Once the excess sagging skin and fat are removed, the remaining skin is draped to form with the underlying muscle and achieve arms that appear more defined, slender, and toned.

Reasons for Brachioplasty

Excess fat and skin that accumulates on the arms often affects one’s self-esteem and confidence. Patients describe shying away from strapless dresses, halter tops, and even photographing the arms. Others describe the discomfort of having heavy arms rub against their body and the difficulty with choosing and wearing clothes. Whether you have experienced extreme weight loss and are dealing with excessive loose skin, or just generally have excess fat in that specific area- a brachioplasty can greatly benefit you!

Will I have a scar after a Brachioplasty?

Although all incisions ultimately result in a scar, our surgeons take great care to hide the incisions. After a Brachioplasty surgery, the placement of the incision is on the inside of the arms so they cannot be seen from the front or the back when your arms are by your side.

Depending on the amount of correction needed, the incision can be in the armpit, halfway down the inside of the arm, or the full length of the upper arm. The length of the incision will depend on how much tissue removal is required. In addition to your scars being well hidden, they will continue to fade over time. Because every body is unique, your surgeon will discuss the details of your procedure at the time of your complimentary consultation!

Can exercise alone lift and tone my arms?

Regular cardio and weight workouts always keep your whole body healthy and happy! However, for people with sagging skin on their arms, even serious weightlifting will not be able to provide the lift they want.

Exercise can build muscle, which will help to fill out the sagging skin to a certain degree. However, if the collagen fibers in the skin on your arms have broken down, the most effective way to gain a tight firm look is through arm lift surgery. Generally, the larger you are when starting your weight loss journey, the less likely it is that your skin will have the elasticity needed to snap back.

Brachioplasty surgery aids in achieving a toned and firm arm because it trims and removes excess skin that lingers, even after intense weight loss.

What if I just have stubborn arm fat, but am not ready for invasive skin removal surgery?

Depending on your body, some patients are better candidates for CoolSculpting or CoolTone before considering a Brachioplasty. If you are unsure, your surgeon can help you decide what treatment is best to achieve your aesthetic goals at the time of your complimentary consultation,!

What are CoolSculpting and CoolTone?

Synergy Plastic Surgery offers a noninvasive body contouring treatment to eliminate fat. CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared body contouring treatment that minimizes fat deposits by freezing and destroying targeted fat cells. This procedure is comparable to liposuction in the way that it permanently eliminates fat cells from your body, however, no surgery or down time is required! Once these cells are treated, your body naturally and gradually flushes them out over the course of a month or 2, revealing a slimmer silhouette without the need for surgery, downtime, or anesthetic!

CoolTone is FDA cleared for strengthening, toning, and firming muscles. It complements the results of CoolSculpting, which provides nonsurgical fat reduction. During a CoolTone treatment, a provider attaches a paddle-like device on the area being targeted while the patient is lying down. Once the device is activated, magnetic energy passes through the skin and fat to stimulate thousands of involuntary muscle contractions. Patients feel these contractions, which don’t cause discomfort. The muscles typically feel sore after the procedure, much as they would following a strenuous workout.

Our practice is equipped with 2 CoolSculpting machines, which enable us to treat 2 areas at once, cutting treatment time in half. These treatments are performed by a team of CoolSculpting University-trained specialists and have received high patient satisfaction rating after just a single treatment.

If you are looking for a way to eliminate skin, fat, and generally tone and sculpt your arms, Synergy Plastic Surgery can help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
