What’s New for 2014 in Breast Augmentation?

With 2013 now having come to a close we look forward to 2014 and the implementation of new technologies in breast augmentation surgery that have recently come to market.  As a leading provider of breast surgery in the Austin/Round Rock area we are dedicated to keeping current and providing the most up-to-date technologies available to ensure a safe and predicable outcome in your surgery.

New items that will see a rise in 2014 are the Keller funnel- 2 and the FDA approval of multiple types of form stable implants often called “gummy bear” implants because of their texture and highly cohesive gel filling.  I recently had the opportunity to show these advances in plastic surgery during an interview on the local NBC affiliate a few days ago this last Sunday.  You can click here to see the video and watch live how a Keller Funnel works and what gummy bear implants look like when cut in half.

To start, the Keller Funnel is a device that has been available for a few years.  We have used it on all silicone breast implants at Synergy Plastic Surgery starting in 2011.  The product has recently been redesigned to work with the gummy bear implants and now provides a stronger and more slippery application in the funnel to help us place the implants into position quickly and without contamination from the skin and nipple.  To learn more about the Keller Funnel you can click here.

Now the good stuff.  All the major implant manufacturers as of late 2013 are now offering form stable textured silicone breast implants.  These implants are slightly more firm, but have the advantage of a very strong silicone gel that resists leakage and holds its shape over time.  The implants can provide an extra lift in some patients, and have been shown to have a lower incidence of problems such as capsular contracture.  These implants are best suited for patients with enough of their own breast tissue to fully cover the implant and who may benefit from a little more lifting with their implant to restore upper breast volume.

Wishing you a very happy new year!
