Give Your Skin a New Year’s Present

Woman washing her skin

Is this the year you resolve to keep your skin healthy and looking its best by following some tried-and-true skincare practices? If so, give your skin a New Year’s present with refreshing┬ámed spa treatments at our Round Rock and Austin locations. A daily skincare regimen combined with cosmetic procedures such as BOTOX┬« Cosmetic injections or laser skin rejuvenation can keep your skin looking great throughout the year.

The Basics

Certain habits can improve the skin’s tone and texture all by themselves. These are familiar to most of our Synergy MedSpa patients. Applying (and re-applying) sunscreen daily, drinking more water, and getting enough sleep can work wonders for the skin’s appearance. Removing makeup and using a moisturizer every night should also be on the list of “musts” when it comes to keeping your skin refreshed.

At-home skin care should also include applying serums that can postpone the development of fine lines and wrinkles or using other topical treatments that can help reverse signs of aging.

Beyond the Basics

You may have been thinking about taking the plunge with injectables, laser skin resurfacing treatments, or chemical peels. The start of a new year is the ideal time to turn those thoughts into action. Depending on your cosmetic goals and the condition of your skin, there are multiple med spa treatment options you can choose from. Doing your research is important because an incorrect treatment performed by an unqualified provider can cause real damage. This isn’t really a time to look for a good Groupon deal.

Here are some treatment options you might consider:

BOTOX Cosmetic: This is the treatment most people think of when it comes to minimizing existing wrinkles, but patients in their mid to late-20s are also getting BOTOX injections as a preventive measure. Because BOTOX works by limiting the movement of facial muscles that create wrinkles such as crow’s feet and worry lines, injecting it before the lines appear can actually postpone their development.

Dermal fillers: These injectables combined with BOTOX injections can give your appearance an overall pick-me-up that can last for months or even longer with periodic touch-up treatments.

Laser treatments: Scheduling a laser skin rejuvenation treatment during the winter is best because it’s easier to avoid direct sun exposure (an important part of the recovery process). Laser treatments can address age spots, wrinkles, uneven skin texture, and unsightly veins.

Chemical peels: A mild peel can remove dead cells that can cause our skin to look dull and uneven. Stronger peels work on deeper layers of the skin and can create dramatic improvements but require more downtime.

You may also want to consider platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) treatments, considered the next generation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). PRF uses a patient’s own blood and contains high concentrations of white blood cells, fibrin, and a small number of stem cells to become like a gel before being injected. It’s a natural filler that can restore volume in many areas of the face.
